How do you remove a rotten pumpkin odor from carpet/room?

My wife, who is a school teacher, left a pumpkin in her class over the weekend. When she came back Monday, the pumpkin had rotted and there was a foul odor throughout the room/hallway. We cleaned up what we could but the odor has remained. We have tried febreze, vinegar, and also oxy solution from a pet store.

Any better solutions? The odor still remains. . .

try those really expensive candles. I’m surprised the vinegar didn’t work. did you use nothing but vinegar. that gets ride of cat urine smell.

Just in time for Halloween, tell the kids that the ghost of a murdered pumpkin is haunting the halls… Plates of baking soda usually works, spread out to increase its surface area. Are the windows the kind that actually open? If so, ventilate. Also, there’s activated charcoal–the kind for fish tank filters–that absorbs odours. Oh, and if you can get this product, it’s great: It’s called “Nil Odour”, and you just put a drop of it here and there, and it actually gets rid of the odour. It’s not easy to find, but an old-fashioned hardware store would likely stock it. It’s a liquid in a small green bottle. You only need a tiny amount, or else you will be faced with that product’s smell, which is not unpleasant, but strong. I highly recommend it.

In the Wal-Mart pet department there is a powder that you sprinkle on the carpet and then vacuum it up.It is to eliminate pet urine odors.I have used it and it is safe and very effective.
